New Qualification development

NHS Health Education England  Stakeholder Briefing

New qualification to meet the recently revised General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Initial Education & Training Standards for Pharmacy Technicians (IET) is underway and to be ready for September 2019.

This project is engaged at a strategic level with the Institute for Apprenticeships, General Pharmaceutical Council, Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK and the employer-led Pharmacy Trailblazer Group. These organisations will be fully consulted and engaged with during the development of this qualification to ensure alignment with pharmacy technician apprenticeship standard development and related government policy.

Commenting on the development, Tess Fenn, APTUK President said ‘ This is excellent news and APTUK are looking forward to engaging with the qualification development. It is significant that this will encompass the learning outcomes within the four domains of the initial education and training standards; person-centred care, professionalism, professional knowledge and skills and collaboration. The qualification curriculum and assessment is crucial in ensuring that trainee pharmacy technicians acquire the knowledge, skill, behaviours and qualities required to support the delivery of national healthcare policies and pharmacy services now and in the future’.
