Published: 10th January 2017

NHS England have produced guidance to support community pharmacies and other stakeholders in their understanding of the requirements for achievement of the four gateway criteria. For a pharmacy to become eligible for any payment under the Quality Payments Scheme it must first meet four gateway criteria.

The gateway criteria are:

  1. The pharmacy must offer the following services: Medicines Use Review (MUR), New Medicine Service (NMS) or it must be registered for NHS Urgent Medicine Supply Advanced Service Pilot
  2. The pharmacy must have an up to date NHS Choices entry
  3. Pharmacy staff must be able to send and receive NHS mail at the pharmacy
  4. The pharmacy contractor must be able to demonstrate ongoing utilisation of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) at the pharmacy premises

The new Quality Payments Scheme runs from December 2016 to March 2018.
