CPPE: Putting in firm foundations

CPPE’s foundation pharmacist training pathway is now open for bookings for commencement in November 2018

CPPE’s foundation pharmacist training pathway is for newly-qualified pharmacists working in independent or small multiple community pharmacies. Mapped to the RPS foundation practice framework, the programme aims to support newly-qualified pharmacists to be capable and competent in their role, ensuring quality of care during foundation stage 1.

The foundation pharmacist training pathway is a 12-month, fully-funded programme that provides a comprehensive mix of online tutor-supported study, learning activities, workshops, assessment and workplacebased support through a designated CPPE education supervisor.

The programme will incorporate an element of workplace support and assessment that will allow learning to be applied, developed and demonstrated in a practice environment. The programme will cover the following topics:

  • Life skills and leadership
  • Consultation skills and person-centred care
  • Medicines optimisation
  • Long-term conditions
  • NHS and public health services.

Pharmacists enrolled on the foundation pharmacist training pathway will be supported to complete a personal development plan to inform learning during the course. CPPE will support learners to determine their development needs and plan workshop attendance. Support will also take place in pharmacists’ workplaces, with regular visits from tutors.

Who is eligible?

Pharmacists who are eligible to apply are:

  • Newly-qualified pharmacists (2016 onwards)
  • Community pharmacists returning to practice after a career break
  • Pharmacists moving to community practice from another practice environment
  • Locum pharmacists. In addition to meeting one of the above criteria, pharmacists must also work for at least three days a week in an independent or small multiple community pharmacy.
