APTUK Pharmacy Technician Awards 2022 Shortlists announced

The APTUK Annual Conference Awards celebrate and acknowledge successful individuals, teams and projects within the pharmacy technician profession.   

We are delighted to be able to recognise all sectors of pharmacy practice and individual excellence through these awards which will be presented at the APTUK Conference and Awards Dinner on April 9th, 2022, at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre (BCEC). Prizes include an engraved trophy and an educational bursary towards attendance at the APTUK Annual Conference 2023.

The Katherine Miles Award for Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy

The Katherine Miles Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy Award recognises an outstanding pharmacy technician who has shown a significant contribution over the past 24 months and symbolises the best of their profession; gone above and beyond their day-to-day duties and deserves wider recognition.

Shortlisted nominees are: 

  • Lesley-Anne Graham, Pharmacy Technician, Lindsay & Gilmour
  • Joshua Taylor, Pharmacy Manager, Spire Healthcare
  • Steffani Beaton, Senior Pharmacy Technician Vaccine Services, NHS Forth Valley 

Excellence in Pharmacy Education and Development Award

The APTUK Excellence in Pharmacy Education and Development Award recognises an outstanding pharmacy technician, team or project that has made a significant contribution to education, training and development of pharmacy technicians or pharmacy teams in the UK. 

Shortlisted nominees are: 

  • Danielle Brockie, Service Development Manager, Lindsay & Gilmour Pharmacy
  • HEE Regional Facilitators for the Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Integrated Training Pilot (Mary Carter, Sarah Green, Sabeha Patel, Emma Walker)
  • Alison Woods, Lead Technician – Education, Training and Development, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust
  • University East Anglia Pharmacy Technician Education Team, Pharmacy Technician Programme, School of Pharmacy, University of East Anglia

Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award

The APTUK Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award acknowledges the commitment, dedication and achievement of Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians. The award will be made to a trainee who, in the opinion of the judges, demonstrates outstanding effort and commitment.

Shortlisted nominees are:

  • Oscar Seal, Wirral University Teaching Hospital
  • Matthew Rostron, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Primary Care Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award

The APTUK Primary Care Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award recognises an outstanding pharmacy technician who has shown a significant contribution to pharmacy services and patients in a primary care setting over the past 24 months.

Shortlisted nominees are: 

  • Rachel Rowlands, Senior Pharmacy Technician Chronic Pain Team, Hywel Dda University Health Board
  • David Leek, Pharmacy Technician, Clacton PCN, Core Prescribing Solutions
  • Gareth Hutchinson, Clinical Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

Secondary Care Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award

The judging panel are looking for an outstanding pharmacy technician that has made a significant contribution to pharmacy services and patients in a secondary care setting in the UK over the past 24 months.

Shortlisted nominees are: 

  • Samantha Murray, Pharmacy Operations Manager, University Hospitals Dorset

Community Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award

The APTUK Community Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award recognises an outstanding pharmacy technician who has shown a significant contribution to pharmacy services and patients in a community pharmacy setting over the past 24 months.

There were no shortlisted nominees for this category

Exceptional Contribution to the Pandemic Response Award 

The APTUK Exceptional Contribution to Pandemic Award recognises an outstanding pharmacy technician, team or project that has made a significant contribution to pharmacy services and patient care during the pandemic.

Shortlisted nominees are:

APTUK Branch of the Year Award

The Branch of the Year Award acknowledges the ongoing dedication, enthusiasm and commitment of Pharmacy Technicians members running local branches voluntarily in their community.

APTUK Fellow Membership

Being awarded an APTUK Fellow Membership is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a member, only achieved through peer nomination. Only current, full subscription APTUK members may nominate and to be eligible for this award, the nominee must uphold the values of the Association, demonstrate loyalty to APTUK and the Pharmacy Technician profession and be well respected by their peers and colleagues. 

APTUK Honorary Membership

APTUK Honorary Membership is a distinctive category to acknowledge exceptional service given either to the Association or to the pharmacy technician profession generally, by a person who is not eligible to be a member of APTUK. 

Only one Honorary Membership is awarded each year and it is bestowed in recognition of the efforts of the nominee who has made a profound difference by either:

  • Championing and upholding the professional role of pharmacy technicians
  • Publicly supporting the continued development of pharmacy technicians
  • Advancing the roles, knowledge, skills, and behaviours of pharmacy technicians
  • Working consistently hard on behalf of pharmacy technicians.
