Introduction to revalidation

Revalidation is the GPhC’s requirement for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to demonstrate that they are keeping their knowledge and skills up to date. Like previous CPD recording you will need to record learning activities but you will need to demonstrate deeper reflection and an understanding on how your learning will impact and benefit patients and service users.

To remain on the GPhC register you need to revalidate every year. APTUK are committed to supporting its members by making the move to revalidation and achieving in the future as worry free as possible!

On 30th March 2018, revalidation replaced the current requirement for registrants to complete CPD. Starting with registration renewals due by 31st October 2018, every time a pharmacy professional renews their registration with the GPhC they will need to submit records to show how they have carried out and recorded revalidation activities. In 2018 registrants will need to submit 4 CPD records, at least 2 of them planned. Registrants will need to submit these records by their next renewal deadline on or after 31st October 2018.

From 2019 onward registrants will need to submit six records each year including two new types of activity:

  • Four CPD records, at least two planned
  • A peer discussion
  • A reflective account

A personalised timelime which outlines your own revalidation requirements in line with your GPhC registration renewal date is available to download form the GPhC website here
Our branches will provide support to its members locally and APTUK members can also benefit from resources and signposting for CPD ideas and opportunities. When the time comes to have complete a reflective account and undertake peer discussion then we will be on hand to support members and help them overcome barriers to completing revalidation Join APTUK and you could find a branch near you.
