Increasing Awareness of Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Among Pharmacy Technicians Webinars
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health threat that impacts the effectiveness of essential medicines used to treat infections. Pharmacy technicians play a crucial role in medicines management and have patient facing roles, are strategically positioned to support safe and appropriate antibiotic use.
According to the 2024 UKHSA national survey that assessed healthcare workers knowledge and attitudes towards AMR pharmacy technicians demonstrated the lowest AMR knowledge of all healthcare professions, with only 37.2% answering seven key AMR knowledge questions correctly, reflecting a reduced understanding of key AMR concepts. Only 62.8% felt they had a key role in tackling AMR, far below the overall average of 84%, demonstrating reduced confidence, limited engagement, and lower perceived responsibility in stewardship activities.
Addressing these gaps is essential to achieving the UK’s National Action Plan for AMR (2024–2029), which aims to increase healthcare worker AMR knowledge by 10% by 2029. As part of an ongoing project we invite you to attend an educational webinar to strengthen AMR and AMS knowledge, confidence and engagement among pharmacy technicians and trainee pharmacy technicians across the UK.
Webinars
APTUK are collaboratively delivering two educational webinars with NHS England and UK Health Security Agency to support pharmacy technicians to learn practical ways of how you can contribute to keep antibiotics working and reduce antimicrobial resistance. Each webinar will have a presentation and panel discussion covering the following aims:
- Increase AMR/AMS knowledge and awareness among pharmacy technicians by at least 10%, in line with the National Action Plan (NAP).
- Enhance awareness, engagement, and participation in AMS‑related activities across the pharmacy technician workforce.
- Improve behaviours, attitudes, and understanding of the vital role pharmacy technicians play in tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Antimicrobial Stewardship is important in all sectors of healthcare and we encourage you to register to attend below;
Monday 16th March 2026 1pm - 2pm
Tuesday 24th March 2026 7pm -8pm
We look forward to you joining us for these engaging webinars and supporting you to gain further knowledge and understanding.
