Following release at the Pharmacy Show in October 2019 the new Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook is now available.
Guidelines for Pharmacy has been specially developed for community pharmacies with input from experienced pharmacists. It will provide a unique one-stop source of practical, concise, and professionally approved summaries of clinical guidelines relevant to UK community pharmacy. This new quarterly publication builds on more than 23 years success of Guidelines, MGP’s publication for GPs, which has the highest average issue readership of any multichannel GP publication in the UK.
A recent MGP survey of community pharmacists indicated that all of them would find a dedicated Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook either ‘very useful’ or ‘useful’, suggesting that this development will satisfy a real clinical need. This newly accessible source of concise clinical guidance will help community pharmacies fulfil their expanded clinical roles, taking pressure off the primary care system as outlined in the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework.
Ivor Eisenstadt, Managing Director, MGP commented: “We hope that Guidelines for Pharmacy will prove as invaluable to community pharmacies as Guidelines is for GPs. Recent independent research shows that as many as 69% of GPs use Guidelines, 90% of whom use it to keep up to date and inform the management of their patients. With community pharmacies expected to take up some of the primary care workload in addition to their existing roles, our clinical guideline summaries will help them continue to meet the evolving health needs of our population.”
Leyla Hannbeck, FRPharmS, CEO of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies, welcomed the launch: “Guidelines for Pharmacy will support community pharmacists and their teams by providing a robust compilation of evidence-based clinical guideline summaries that can be easily accessed.”
All community pharmacies in mainland Britain will receive a free copy of the quarterly Guidelines for Pharmacy handbook, and all members of the pharmacy team will be able to access the full library of online guideline summaries and other content from both guidelines.co.uk and guidelinesinpractice.co.uk. The award-winning Guidelines mobile app will also be available to download.
