APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework - Programme Approval

APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework- Programme Approval

In July 2021 APTUK launched an approval process as priority for the APTUK/PCPA National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians (PC NCF) in order to facilitate and drive future changes to the delivery of education and training for the primary care pharmacy technician workforce.

The first approval panel for the PC NCF took place in September 2021. The panel assembled had representation from the APTUK executive board and the Primary Care Pharmacy Association (PCPA) committee and undertook mapping, review and approval of the Pharmacy Workforce Development South (PWDS) – GP Pharmacy Technician Medicines Optimisation Training Programme (GPPT).

APTUK and PCPA are pleased to announce that the PWDS – GP Pharmacy Technician Medicines Optimisation Training Programme has been formally approved by APTUK/PCPA demonstrating that it meets the standards of the recognised National Competency Framework for Primary Care Pharmacy Technicians.

Feedback was provided by the panel to the education and training provider (PWDS) and quoted:

"Overall this is an excellent example of a programme ready for use as a competency framework within primary care. The panel agreed that no recommendations or amendments are required for approval of the programme. It is clear that it has been well thought through, a clear supportive structure implemented for the 'learner' and expectations of all parties are present, appropriate and clearly documented. Appeals procedures and plagiarism statements contribute to the support offered to the 'learner'. Congratulations on your approval".

Further information on the PWDS GP Pharmacy Technician Medicines Optimisation Training Programme can be found on the PWDS website.
